The Hugo’s brand is nowadays behind some of the best-known establishments in Paceville.
Hugo’s Group, a hospitality conglomerate primarily based in St Julian’s, took to social media to mark the four-year anniversary since the tragic death of its founder, Hugo Chetcuti.
Hugo died on 12th July 2018, six days after being stabbed by 39-year-old Bojan Cmelik outside one of his own establishments in Paceville.
In October 2021, Bojan was sentenced to life imprisonment after a jury found him guilty of wilful homicide, unlawful possession of a weapon, and violently resisting arrest.

“It’s been four years since the tragic passing of our beloved founder, Hugo Chetcuti,” the group wrote.
“May his legacy continue to grow thanks to his son, family, committed employees, and his loyal clientele. If you ever had the privilege of knowing and spending time with Hugo, feel free to share your experiences and photos with us to keep his memory alive,” it continued.
Hugo started from very humble beginnings after leaving Malta for London at the tender age of 18.
He first got acquainted with the hospitality industry by serving as a dishwasher and, later on, as a water at a hotel in Sussex Gardens in Paddington.
After gaining sufficient insight and experience, Hugo returned to Malta with the intent of setting up his own business.
Nowadays, the Hugo’s brand is behind some of Paceville’s best-known establishments, such as Hugo’s Boutique Hotel, Hugo’s Pub, Hugo’s Lounge, and Hugo’s Burger Bar.
Rest in peace, Hugo!
