Historic sporting moments! Here’s a throwback to Malta at the 1996 Summer Olympics
In the run up to the Summer Olympics in Paris, opening later this month on July 26th, The Maltese Olympic Committee looks back at when Malta participated in the ‘Olympic Summer Games’ of 1996 – 28 years ago!
The Summer Games took place in Atlanta in the United States, and were also referred to as the Centennial Olympic Games as they marked the 100th anniversary of the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens, the inaugural edition of the modern Olympic Games.
Malta participated in Athletics, Boardsailing, Judo, Shooting and Swimming. The most notable result was that of Frans Pace in Shooting, who finished in 20th position out of 52 participants, with Peter Croft as his coach.
The athletes for the Maltese contingent for this year’s Olympics will be announced mid-July, with the event gathering over 10,000 athletes from all over the world.
Looking forward to supporting the local contingent at this year’s Summer Olympics!
