Malta International Airport has achieved a record-breaking milestone, welcoming over 8.3 million passengers between January and November 2024.

This marks the first time in its history that the airport surpassed 8 million passenger movements, a feat reached on the 12th of November 2024.

This impressive performance reflects a 15% increase compared to the same period in 2023, solidifying 2024 as the airport’s best year to date.

Malta International Airport record-breaking traffic in 2024

In November alone, 630,637 passengers passed through the airport, representing a significant 19.2% year-over-year growth. The busiest day of the month was the 2nd of November, when 26,936 passenger movements were recorded. This growth in passenger traffic coincided with a rise in aircraft movements of 19.8% and a seat capacity increase of 18.3%.

Furthermore, the seat load factor (SLF) showed an improvement of 0.7 percentage points, reaching an impressive 85.6%.

Italy emerged as the top market in November, contributing 20% of the total traffic and registering a 9.6% increase compared to 2023. The United Kingdom followed closely, showing a growth of 16.7%.

However, the most remarkable surge was observed in the Polish market, which grew by an astonishing 56%. Poland climbed to third place among the airport's top markets, overtaking Germany and Spain - a position it last held in January 2024.

The airport’s sustained growth highlights its pivotal role in supporting Malta’s connectivity and economic development. The increase in passenger traffic reflects strong demand across key markets and the airport’s success in attracting more routes and flights.

As 2024 nears its conclusion, Malta International Airport continues to set new benchmarks, demonstrating its resilience and strategic importance in the aviation sector.

These achievements underscore the strength of Malta’s tourism sector and its ability to attract visitors from diverse markets. The airport's outstanding performance signals a bright future, paving the way for continued growth and success in 2025.
