Hello to new life! Msida Bastion Garden gets a fresh botanical upgrade
A new look for a historic place!

Earlier today, a group of volunteers and students successfully completed a long-awaited project in the Msida Bastion Cemetery and Historic Garden in Floriana. Providing sweeping views of the Marsamxett Harbour, this peaceful and historic space has been given a much-needed touch of greenery and renewal.

The project focused on revitalising the garden’s vegetation, replacing aging Lantana shrubs with 36 new Eugenia Etna Fire shrubs - a hardy plant well-suited to Malta’s challenging climate. Volunteers also constructed a brand-new flowerbed, adding some color and life to this already charming garden.

The cemetery and surrounding gardens date back to the 17th century, long before the British arrived in Malta. However, it was under British rule that the cemetery became what it is known for today, serving as the final resting place for British Army and Navy personnel, civil officials, and merchants.

With its rich history, stunning views, and now a refreshed landscape, the Msida Bastion Garden remains one of Malta's gems, a peaceful retreat from the busy capital, where visitors can get their intake of both nature and history. Thanks to the dedication of these volunteers, this historic space continues to bloom, inviting visitors to step back in time while enjoying the beauty blooming in the present too!

Have you ever visited this garden?
