110 and fabulous!

Francesca Vella

Malta’s oldest recorded resident, Grace Gatt, celebrated an extraordinary milestone yesterday - her 110th birthday! Born on 30th January 1916, Grace has witnessed over a century of history, not easy to wrap one's head around!

Coming from a prominent family, she is the granddaughter of Joseph Howard, Malta’s first-ever Prime Minister (1921-1923). She spent her childhood in Valletta, right in front of the iconic Manoel Theatre, before marrying Alfred Gatt in 1940.

Though she has outlived her husband and son John, she continues to be surrounded by love and care from her family, including her son Edgar.

Happiest of birthdays, Grace!
