Green momentum! Malta advances towards wind-powered renewable energy
One step closer to green energy!

Francesca Vella

A public call has been issued for the development of Malta’s first offshore renewable energy project, set to be located 12 nautical miles from the coast within the country’s Exclusive Economic Zone.

This marks a significant step forward, as solar energy has traditionally been Malta’s primary renewable resource. Expanding into offshore wind energy will be a key development in the country's efforts to meet its climate neutrality goal by 2050.

This offshore wind energy initiative is not only crucial for Malta's energy transition but also represents a broader commitment to reducing reliance on fossil fuels and improving the nation's energy security.

Can you picture what the offshore turbines will look like?
