Golden results! Maltese weightlifters win big at the European Small Nations Championship in Luxembourg
Malta’s young weightlifters have done remarkably well at the European Small Nations Championship held in Dudelange, Luxembourg.

The standout performance came from Tenishia Thornton, securing victories in both the Junior and Senior categories with an impressive 258 points. She executed a flawless six out of six lifts, concluding with an 86kg Snatch and a 107kg Clean & Jerk. Her total of 193kg set a new National Record. In the Seniors category, she was followed by Luxembourg, with Iceland claiming the 3rd position.

Rylee Borg delivered another outstanding result, claiming the title of the best Junior by lifting 113kg in the Snatch (a new National record) and closing with a 141kg Clean & Jerk, earning a total of 323 points. Iceland secured 2nd place, followed by Cyprus.

Kim Camilleri Lagana showcased a strong performance, securing the 2nd position in the Juniors category, lifting 56kg in the Snatch and 75kg in the Clean & Jerk, scoring a total of 220 points. Iceland took the 3rd position.

Rylee Borg and Kim Camilleri Lagana also dominated in the doubles category with an impressive score of 543 points, leaving Iceland and Cyprus trailing as they took first place.
Anton Micallef and Shaun Ciantar claimed the 3rd position in the doubles category. Cyprus secured the 1st place, followed by Iceland. Micallef lifted 114kg in the Snatch and 140kg in the Clean & Jerk, scoring 322 points. Ciantar lifted 115kg in the Snatch and 140kg in the Clean & Jerk, scoring 303 points.

Unfortunately, Roberta Tabone faced challenges in the snatch, but she demonstrated resilience in the Clean & Jerk, lifting 101kg.

The coaching trio of Jesmond Caruana, Rodmar Pulis, and Matthew Camilleri provided invaluable guidance to the team throughout the competition.
Such success comes after Rylee Borg, Kim Camilleri Lagana and Tenishia Thornton successfully competed in the World Championships held in Mexico just last week.
