Hop on! Bus routes extended to Malta’s most popular beaches for the summer months
The changes aim to improve access to popular summer destinations and to cater for busier buses during the summer months

Just as the summer heat is ramping up, Malta Public Transport has announced the new bus schedule for the upcoming months. The changes came into effect last Sunday 9th June, with more adjustments taking place on Sunday 7th July.

Some routes being extended are those serving destinations that tend to be more popular in the summer months: Route 49 (Valletta to Għadira) will now extend to Armier Bay and operate until late evening; Route 74 (Valletta to Żurrieq) will extend to Blue Grotto; Routes 109/109A (Siġġiewi to Baħrija) will extend to Lapsi Bay; and Routes 101/101B (Mġarr to Ċirkewwa) will extend to Ġnejna Bay.

Several routes will see an increase in frequency to accommodate higher demand. Route 212 (Sliema to Buġibba) will have additional services starting in June with further increases in July. Route 221 (Buġibba to Ċirkewwa), Route 222 (Sliema to Ċirkewwa), Route 223 (Buġibba to Għajn Tuffieħa), Route 225 (Sliema to Għajn Tuffieħa) and Route 322 (Mġarr to Marsalforn) will run more frequently during the summer months. Route 53 (Valletta to Rabat) will operate every 30 minutes almost all day during the summer.

Other routes will have their frequency reduced or will be stopped altogether with the end of the scholastic year. Route 43 (Valletta to Naxxar), Route 61 (Valletta to Ħaż-Żebbug), Route 72 (Valletta to Qrendi), Route 73 (Valletta to Żurrieq) and Route 90 (Valletta to Ħaż-Żabbar) will all have their frequency reduced in July, while Route X1A (Ċirkewwa to University of Malta) and Route 150 (Lascaris to MCAST) will be suspended, also in July.
