The stunningly beautiful Giusseppe Calì ceiling painting found at Saint Lawrence Collegiate church in Birgu is finally being restored to make it look better than ever.

Found within the choir area, the ceiling painting shows the apotheosis of St Lawrence.

It unfortunately started deteriorating and a number of issues have been spotted.

These include extensive over painting, salt efflorescence, as well as some flaking.

Even though the painting needs work, the brush strokes of Calì's magnificent work can still be admired.
