Three international sand artists are coming to Malta to create large-scale sand sculptures as part of the Malta International Arts Festival.

Italian artist Michela Ciappini will create a work in Birżebbuġa involving refugees and local communities, in collaboration with Dance Beyond Borders for Refugee Week.

In Valletta, Spanish artist Oscar Rodriguez will create a sculpture that will also serve as the set for a contemporary dance production in collaboration with ŻfinMalta, Malta’s national dance company.

And at the Dock 1 waterfront in Bormla, Belgian artist Enguerrand David will present a sculpture echoing the limestone architecture of the historic harbour site.

While the exact form of their ephemeral sculptures has yet to be confirmed, they are all set to explore the theme of Greek mythology.

Are you looking forward to this?
