Flying high! Malta International Airport wins Best Airport at ACI Europe’s Awards
Malta's airport outshone competitors like Brussels Charleroi and Seville airports
Malta International Airport was announced 2024 winner of the prestigious Best Airport Award in the 5-10 million passenger category at ACI Europe’s Best Airport Awards yesterday evening.
Brussels Charleroi Airport and Seville Airport were two of those shortlisted alongside Malta’s airport, the latter taking the award for showing exceptional resilience in 2023, particularly in the areas of strategic foresight, operational management and financial performance.
Malta International Airport CEO Alan Borg thanked all airport employees for their collective efforts, emphasising that each was instrumental in achieving this success. He also looked to the future, claiming “We are not simply preparing for the future, but we are actively shaping it.”
In fact, an extensive terminal expansion project is ongoing at the airport, with the first phase nearing completion. The digitisation of the passenger experience will continue to grow, through the installation of new scanning equipment for hand luggage. These projects will aid Malta International Airport to handle rising traffic volumes, while maintaining high quality standards for all those passing through.
The Malta International Airport also aims to become a more efficient airport operator, integrating environmental considerations into its plans. The company’s strategy to reach its net zero carbon emissions target by 2050 will be made public in the coming weeks.
