‘Ambejnt Malta’ has just finished the first phase of restoration at the Saint Philip Garden in Floriana which means the garden is finally open to the public once again.

The garden which is 7000 square metres big, is a historic one and it dates all the way back to the 17th century.

It also forms part of a chain of five gardens that make up the Botanic National Gardens of Malta which ‘Ambjent Malta’ is gradually restoring.

Some of the works done in the garden include the restoration of the fort walls from the times of the Knights of Saint John and the restoration of the 1622 Alof de Wignacourt fountain. The fountain was originally found in Saint George’s square but was then moved to the Saint Philip Garden grounds.

A new electricity system and additional handrails were also installed.

Apart from the trees that were already there, an extra 520 trees were planted in order to enrich the biodiversity of the garden.

Even though, the garden has been opened to the public again, it still needs to complete its next phase of restoration.

This will include the restoration of Sally Port and the main entrance, works to make the garden more accessible and even more tree planting.

Until then, the garden will be open everyday from 6am till 8pm between July and September and from 6am to 5pm for the rest of the year.
