Flooding in summer? Meteotsunami causes sea level to rise in Msida
The area is usually known for flooding due to rain in the winter months

Yesterday several observed flooding in the area near the Workers’ Memorial monument in Msida, as the sea level rose, covering the streets with seawater.

The Oceanography Malta Research Group from the University of Malta confirmed that a meteotsunami took place – a phenomenon caused by rapid changes in atmospheric pressure, causing the displacement of a body of water.

This has already happened in Malta in the past – in June 2019, the seawater levels rose particularly around the locality of St Paul’s Bay, causing flooding in the area.

Did you see the flooding in Msida yesterday?
