Expect rainy skies for St Paul’s Feast! Malta prepares for a week of showers and thunderstorms on Sunday
Strong winds reaching force 7 are also expected on Saturday - stay safe!

If you thought winter had ended early, think again! The upcoming week is set to bring a stretch of rainy days across Malta, proving that February still has plenty of winter in store for the islands.

With the exception of tomorrow, rain is expected daily for at least a week, beginning today with light isolated showers. The wet weather will intensify on Friday and persist throughout the long weekend into Tuesday – and potentially even beyond!

On an island where rain is often sparse (sometimes worryingly so), such an extended period of wet weather is quite unusual. However, as the Maltese proverb goes, ‘Frar jimla’ l-bjar’ (February fills the wells) – a reminder that this month historically brings heavy rain.

The rainiest days will be Friday to Sunday, with 15 to 30mm of rain expected on Friday alone. Strong winds will also make their presence felt, with gusts reaching Force 7 from Friday through Saturday, leading to rough seas throughout the weekend. And if that wasn’t enough, Sunday will add a thunderstorm into the mix – definitely weather fit for the Feast of St Paul’s Shipwreck, celebrated in Malta on Monday.

Will February live up to its reputation? Only time will tell!
