Visions Are Seldom What They Seem is a solo exhibition by Nicole Debono, curated by Rachelle Bezzina, running at the Malta Society of Arts from 12 March to 16 April 2026, with opening night on 12 March at 18:30.
The exhibition presents a new body of paintings exploring the instability of memory, the politics of domestic space, and the tension between intimacy and fabrication. Debono transforms familiar interior scenes and bodily fragments into charged, uncanny spaces, treating each room as both subject and declaration of artistic autonomy.
Drawing inspiration from Virginia Woolf’s concept of a room of one’s own, the works interrogate how private space shapes creativity, memory, and authority, inviting viewers to navigate carefully constructed interiors where recollection becomes active and certainty dissolves.
