Ġiżimina, the solo project of Yasmin Kuymizakis, aka JOON, presents Id-Dlam Id-Dawl (The Darkness The Light), a deeply personal exploration of Maltese folk traditions and cultural memory. The seven-track album draws on archival folk guitar recordings captured on cassette in local bars and social spaces during the 1980s, transforming fragments of the past into a contemporary musical experience.
Developed following a 2025 performance with filmmaker and sound collector Vincent Moon, the project explores themes of change, loss, uncertainty, and renewal. Through reinterpretation and experimentation, Id-Dlam Id-Dawl creates a dialogue between past and present, reflecting on darkness and light as interconnected parts of the same journey.
