THE WIZARD OF OZ by JOHANE CASABENE DANCE CONSERVATOIRE

From the plains of Kansas, to Munchkin Land and then on to the Emerald City, join Dorothy in her quest to find the Wizard of Oz who should be able to help her get back home from the magical world of Oz. In the retelling of this classical fairy tale by Johane Casabene Dance Conservatoire, Dorothy, her dog Toto, The Scarecrow, The Tin Man and The Cowardly Lion dance down the Yellow Brick Road, each one with a personal request for the Wizard of Oz.

Glinda, the Good Witch of the North watches over them along their journey. They really need her help as The Wicked Witch of the West is forever pursuing them and will stop at nothing to get Dorothy’s ruby red ballet shoes.

This production has been produced, choreographed and directed by Johane Casabene, assisted by the JCDC Teaching Faculty. Marco Calleja assisted the choreographers and dancers with the dramatic interpretation of this novel.

This well-loved classic has been retold through the magical language of dance. Classical Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap and Spanish Dance all feature in this production. The leading role of Dorothy will be performed by Daphne Farrugia, supported by Marco Calleja, Jason Scerri and Warren Bonello who are initially The Farm Workers and who then become The Scarecrow, The Tin Man and The Cowardly Lion. Justin Micallef plays the roles of both Professor Marvel, as well as The Wizard of Oz. In an almighty battle between good and evil, Federica Nicastro’s role is that of The Wicked Witch of the West, while Bianca Anastasi is The Good Witch of the North. Rachel Vella is Aunt Em back on the farm in Kansas. The dance students from the Johane Casabene Dance Conservatoire hold various roles throughout the production. And then there is JCDC’s adorable mascot Teddy, the lovely Yorkshire terrier in the role of Toto.

Everyone involved in this production looks forward to welcoming you into the mythical world of Oz.
