Zhang Tingqun’s exhibition titled The Shape of Volition consists of two categories; the first being a long cloth scroll, hung at the top of the corridor so as to break the field boundaries between artefacts and easel paintings, as well as to accentuate the Oriental ethos of the atmosphere it seeks to create. The second forms the main part of the exhibition, composed of 16 paintings created in recent years. The reductive and minimalistic style of each distinct image reveals the essence of Zhang Tingun’s unique mode of artistic interpretation, bringing viewers into close proximity with the substance of each artwork and the spiritual core of the artist.
