Folk Underground is hosting weekly events in the underground stone crypt of Sala San Duminku beneath Valletta. The specialized concert series brings għana, the traditional Maltese art of folk singing, storytelling, and acoustic guitar playing, into an accessible city space. The sessions feature a mix of celebrated folk masters and emerging vocalists sharing regional narratives shaped over centuries at the crossroads of the Mediterranean.
The acoustic evenings uncover a raw musical culture that is rarely encountered outside of rural village bars and close-knit local communities. Audiences will experience authentic, generational stories of love, loss, resistance, wit, and everyday life echoing through the church vaults. The intimate performance setup provides a rare opportunity to engage directly with respected local artists preserving the island's unique storytelling traditions.
The performances take place every Wednesday.
