In the first instalment of the Regional Concert Series, audiences will go on a musical journey within the Ta’ Bistra Catacombs in Mosta. Led by violinist Brianne Curran, those in attendance will be guided through the catacombs as she performs Kantilena Procession, a work by Dutch composer Luc Houtkamp which has been inspired by the earliest literary text in the Maltese language, Pietru Caxaro’s 15th-century poem, Il-Kantilena. The journey will be accompanied by an electronic soundscape triggered over a multiple speaker system placed in the different locations within the 90-metre-long, third-century-AD catacombs that feature 57 tombs laid out in 16 chambers. Kantilena Procession is part of Modern Music Days, which is organised by Teatru Manoel, the Malta Association for Contemporary Music, and the Valletta 2018 Foundation as part of the culture programme of Valletta 2018 European Capital of Culture, in collaboration with Heritage Malta.
