Over the past 2 decades continuous technological innovations have changed, quite drastically, the way traditional financial services are delivered to businesses and consumers worldwide. Technology has transformed the way we purchase goods in shops; it has enabled us to shop in online virtual shops from the comfort of our homes; has allowed us to instantly transfer money to friends and relatives anywhere in the world. Entrepreneurs can raise investments for business ideas in new ways. Tailored investment advice is provided by non-human advisors. And now, blockchain technology is challenging the centralised role financial institutions take in financial services, and promises to revolutionise the current model.
This is an introductory course to FinTech where it will look at how technology is transforming the financial industry. During the course a look at how different models and solutions have been developed and delivered will be taken. Concepts will be described in a non-technical fashion. Key topics include: the evolution of money, card payments, correspondent banking, robo-advisors, the blockchain revolution and regulatory/compliance frameworks.
