Do you remember? Throwback to the February 2024 hailstorm that turned Malta white
It brought the rare opportunity for a Maltese snowman!

Just over a year ago, on 11th February 2024, Malta experienced a hailstorm that left the island looking like a winter wonderland - a fairly unusual sight for the usually balmy island.

The weather page ‘It-Temp Madwarna’ shared photos capturing the magic (and chaos!) of the moment, showing white hail blanketing various parts of Malta, making it look like the backdrop of a Christmas card.

Central Malta, including Mosta, Naxxar, St Julian's, Gzira, and Attard, were hit especially hard by the hailstorm. One image from the social media post features the University Sports Complex in Msida, showing the entire pitch completely covered in what looks like snow.

In some areas, so much hail gathered that some creatives decided to build little snowmen, while others took out their cameras and excitedly filmed this hailstorm for the books.

Today’s mild weather feels like a world apart from that icy scene, but who knows? With the month only halfway through, there’s still hope for another chilly surprise.

Are you hoping for a 2025 repeat?
