The distribution of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine has begun in EU member states. Things kicked off yesterday with the EU bloc expected to get 55 million jab doses by June.

Malta will also receive consignments of this vaccine, which is the fourth one to be approved by the European Medicines Agency, following the approvals of Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca.

In a press conference on Saturday, Malta’s Health Minister said the country could be one of the first to achieve herd immunity as the target to achieve this has now been pushed forward to mid-August.

Up until yesterday, 244,718 people have received the first dose while 71,481 are now fully vaccinated, according to Sahha numbers.
