Summer is fast approaching, and that means days by the beach and of course, fresh ftajjar enjoyed by the sea.
Heritage Malta is now inviting foodies to discover the history and traditions behind the island’s most iconic sandwich at an event later this month.

On Thursday 28th May, historian Noel Buttigieg, who forms part of the Taste History team, will provide interesting points about the ftira’s history and evolution, leading up to its milestone moment in 2020 when it became the first Maltese food iteam to be included in UNESCO’s list of Intangible Heritage.
People will also find out how the seasoned tomato paste (kunserva mħawra) and pickled vegetables traditionally used in ftajjar are prepared and, of course, get the chance to prepare and enjoy their own ftira.
The event will take place between 7pm and 10pm. Tickets are between €10 and €15 and are available here.
