Dining in the dark? Lija restaurant offers concept you’ve never seen before
We can think of a few interesting blindfolded scenarios… but really, dinner in the dark?

Sarah Micallef

Have you ever thought about what it would be like to dine in the dark? This local restaurant will be giving you the opportunity to do just that, on two special nights next week.

Chic eatery Bahia, nestled within a 200-year-old townhouse in the tranquil village of Lija, will be the setting for an interesting dining concept that Malta’s never seen before: a blindfolded dinner. That’s right: a full dinner service which will be enjoyed completely blindfolded, from start to finish!

Taking place next week, on the 16th and 17th May, the unique blindfolded dinner will feature 16 different creations that are purposely made for the occasion paired with eight different beverages which will possess the limelight, while guests will be in the dark.

“The idea behind the event is to drive people to experience the meal using the rest of their senses when tasting food and beverages,” says the team at Bahia. “Our sight makes us take a number of things for granted, and so when we are not able to see, the rest of our senses sharpen.”

Indeed! “At the end of the night they will take memories of flavour, sounds, texture and scent without seeing what they ate, so the memory is quite a particular one!” they add.

And with the reputation this fantastic restaurant has garnered since opening in 2016, it’s safe to say that the blindfolded diners will be in safe hands during this unique experience!

So tell us… would you ever consider dining in the dark?
