Did you know that Malta’s first ever playground was inaugurated by King George V?
A historical landmark!

Emma Galea

Pretty much every single village or town in Malta and Gozo has a playground today but this was not always the case.

The first playground in Malta was built in Floriana all the way back in the early 20th century and still stands there today.

It was named after King Geoge V who inaugurated the playground himself.

The entrance of the playground is characterised by an arch decorated with the arms of the British monarchy in its top part.

The playground sports some stunning views of the fortification and the grand harbour. It has been loved by many children and families all throughout the decades.
