From one island to another! Do you remember boarding Gozo Channel's M/V Xlendi ship in the 1990s?
A blast from the past!

Emma Galea

If you crossed between the Maltese islands sometime during the 1990s and used the Gozo Channel, chances are you have boarded the M/V Xlendi.

A photo shared by Alexander Jacobsen on Nostalgia Malta, shows the ship in its heyday as people are disembarking at the harbour.

This is sight is very much impossible to see today as the M/V Xlendi has been decommissioned and is now sunk off the coast off Xatt l-Ahmar bay in Gozo as a dive site.

When they sunk it in 1999, it unexpectedly turned upside down, making the wreck only suitable for experienced divers.

The ship was originally built in Denmark in 1955 but was used as Gozo Channel ship between 1990 and 1997.

M/V Xlendi was taught to be an “unfortunate” ship as it was shaped like a coffin and experienced many accidents during its run.
