Italy emerged as Malta International Airport’s most popular passenger market in July, overtaking the United Kingdom for the first time since February.

More than one in five passengers travelling through the airport during the month flew to or from Italy, with increased summer capacity on several routes helping drive demand.

Poland also continued to perform strongly, remaining Malta’s most well-connected market in Eastern Europe. Passenger numbers between Malta and Poland increased by almost 50 per cent compared to the same period.

Germany and France ranked fourth and fifth respectively. While Germany recorded a marginal decline in passenger traffic, France experienced a 5.1 per cent drop. It marked the first time this summer that both markets recorded negative growth, largely attributed to reduced flight frequencies on several routes.

Despite a significant increase in available capacity, Malta International Airport registered a strong seat load factor of 87.6 per cent in July. Available seat capacity increased by 17.4 per cent, supported by higher aircraft movements and an average of 108 daily flights during the summer season.

Almost 1.2 million passengers passed through Malta International Airport in July, highlighting the continued strength of Malta’s summer travel demand and the island’s extensive air connectivity.
