The BBC and Netflix have just announced that they will be producing the upcoming Lockerbie bombing television series that is also set to be filmed in none other than Malta.

The drama series is based on the real-life events surrounding the 1988 Pan-Am flight bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland and the investigations that followed.

The tragedy killed all 243 passengers on board, the flight’s 16 crew members and 11 people on the ground. It is still considered to be the worst terror attack ever experienced on British soil.

Acclaimed novelist and screenwriter, Jonathan Lee is set to be the lead writer for the six-episode series while two of the episodes will be written by Scottish screenwriter Gillian Roger Park.

‘Lockerbie’ will first air on BBC One and iPlayer followed by Netflix in the UK and globally.

“From the initial exhaustive search for evidence on the ground in Scotland, via the US and Malta to the trial at Camp Zeist in 2000, the drama takes us right up to the most recent indictment at the end of 2022”, BBC expressed.

Apart from Malta, filming will also take place later this year in Scotland and Toronto.
