Back into the wild! A family of Maltese hedgehogs released back after rehabilitation
They were originally rescued back in the beginning of July.
A mother hedgehog and her babies have been released back into the wild, fully rehabilitated after they were rescued from Birgu.
The mother and her newborn babies were rescued by Malta’s Wildlife rescue team on the 1st July after they were found under a boat at the Birgu regatta club.
They were taken into rehab so the baby hedgehogs could grow up with their mother in a safe place, away from any cars that could run them over.
Wildlife Rescue Team Malta explained that the “babies thrive much more when they're with their mother, and learn normal hunting and hedgehog behaviour more easily than when they need to be hand-reared”.
This week, they saw that these cute prickly creatures could finally survive on their own and they were therefore released back into their natural habitats.
