Baby turtles at Ghajn Tuffieha! Malta’s popular sandy beach welcomes fourth nest of the season
The public is encouraged to avoid any excess light or disturbances around the nest

Francesca Vella

This morning, the fourth turtle nesting site of this season was spotted during Nature Trust Malta’s daily patrol at Ghajn Tuffieha, which is the beach that has seen the most turtle activity this year.

As was the case in another nesting a few weeks ago, the nest was laid dangerously close to the shore, posing a high risk of mortality should the weather conditions become unfavourable.

Turtle eggs

To maximise the nest’s chances of survival, ERA and Nature Trust Malta officials worked together to ensure that the eggs are safely moved next to the other two nests at Golden Bay.

The two entities will continue to work together to ensure that the nest is protected. Anyone visiting Golden Bay is encouraged to avoid excessive noise, trampling of sand and light close to the nesting area, as this may pose a threat to the turtle eggs and any hatchlings that are born.

Fingers crossed for the baby turtles!
