From Milton Avery masterpieces to giant Jenga, MICAS has something for everyone this weekend!
If you’re looking for family outing ideas – here you go! MICAS Open Weekend is back, filled with art, creativity, and a little bit of magic for all ages.
This Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th November, from 10am to 5pm, Malta’s home of contemporary art in Floriana will be opening its doors for a full weekend of free entry, art experiences, and hands-on fun!
Visitors can explore the internationally acclaimed exhibition Colour, Form & Composition: Milton Avery and his Enduring Influence on Contemporary Painting, featuring 58 works by the celebrated American artist Milton Avery alongside seven contemporary painters: Henni Alftan, Harold Ancart, March Avery, Andrew Cranston, Gary Hume, Nicolas Party, and Jonas Wood.
Beyond the main galleries, there’s plenty more to enjoy throughout the MICAS grounds. The Beyond the Bastions exhibition traces the fascinating story of MICAS itself, while Conrad Shawcross’ mesmerising sculptures transform the historic barrel vaults into a world of geometry and light.
And it’s not just for the grown-ups – the weekend is packed with activities for kids and families, including giant games like Jenga, Chess and Four-in-a-Line, and a play area for the younger ones too, with building blocks, tunnels, and slides. For calmer kiddos, there will be garden workshops with seed sowing, plant hunts, and a Wishing Tree, as well as art stations where visitors can explore shape, colour, and composition through creative play.
For those eager to dive deeper, guided tours will be held throughout the day, with exhibition tours being held at 10:30, 12:30, 14:00 & 16:00, and architectural & historical tours held at 11:30 & 15:00.
So bring your friends, family, and curiosity, and spend the weekend surrounded by art, play, and – why not – maybe some inspiration at MICAS, Floriana.
