Yesterday evening, Rita Galea was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award for her work in film production at the Golden Bee awards ceremony that closed the second edition of the Mediterrane Film Festival.

Rita Galea is one of Malta’s most experienced production coordinators, having worked on several films that were filmed in Malta, including the 1980’s ‘Popeye’, ‘Pulp’ starring Michael Caine and ‘Clash of the Titans’, as well as the local production ‘The Boat’, which won Best Film at the Malta Film Awards in 2022.

The local producer also co-founded Latina Pictures Ltd alongside film producer Winston Azzopardi, with the goal of providing support to international film production companies whilst shooting in Malta.

Among the award winners stood one of Britain’s most established filmmakers, Mike Leigh, for the Golden Bee Award in Career Achievement. Directors Alexandre de La Patellière and Matthieu Delaporte, took home the People’s Choice Award for their film ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’, which famously featured Malta as a backdrop.

Congratulations to Rita Galea on this accomplishment!
