Situated within the historic Citadel of Gozo, the charming chapel of St. Joseph stands as a reminder of the island's rich religious heritage. This chapel, built atop the ruins of an older chapel dedicated to St. Nicholas of Bari, features a simple yet elegant facade and a distinctive round window above its door.

Inside, visitors are greeted by an interior adorned with beautifully designed cornices that add a touch of grandeur to the roof.

A highlight of the chapel is the titular painting by Vincenzo Cordina, depicting the Flight of the Holy Family into Egypt. This remarkable artwork is a copy of a painting by an anonymous Northern European artist from the early 1600s. Renowned as one of the most important paintings in Gozo, the original masterpiece now resides in the Cathedral Museum, ensuring its preservation and continued appreciation.

The chapel of St. Joseph, with its historical significance and artistic treasures, offers a glimpse into Gozo's past.

Whether you're an art enthusiast, a history buff, or simply seeking a serene spot for reflection, the chapel provides a compelling destination within the Citadel's ancient walls.

Have you ever visited this chapel inside the historic Citadel of Gozo?
