Ġnien Wistin Dingli, a new 1,500 square metre recreational area in Xewkija, Gozo, has just been inaugurated and is now open to the public.
The project, valued to cost €255,000, was financed through the Development Planning Fund and can be found in the vicinities of the Xewkija Primary school.
The area was named after Augustine Dingli, also known as Wistin, who served as Xewkija’s first mayor.
Works in the area included the installation of efficient and sustainable outdoor light fixtures, CCTV cameras, a change in pavements, planting of 500 trees and bushes, new benches, new bins and recreational equipment for games and physical activity. In addition, the installed pavement was chosen to be appropriate and secure for children.
During the inauguration, Xewkija Mayor Hubert Saliba remarked that the playing field is accessible for everyone.

On the other hand Minister for Gozo and Planning, Clint Camilleri noted that a new recreational area was much needed and thanks to its features, “children can take advantage of the space.”
