A new beginning! Hedgehogs Luca and Zombie return to the wild after rehabilitation by Malta’s Wildlife Rescue Team
New adventures in the wild ahead for these two!

Francesca Vella

Over the weekend, two hedgehogs were successfully released back into the wild by the dedicated efforts of the local Wildlife Rescue Team. Rescued from dangerous situations, both hedgehogs, named Luca and Zombie by the volunteers, have been nursed back to full health and are now ready for some new adventures in their natural habitat.

Luca, a light-colored hedgehog, had a tough start to life. He was discovered malnourished and weighed just 82 grams - a far cry from a healthy weight for a young hoglet. Through careful care and a diet designed to mimic the natural food he would find in the wild, Luca now weighs 400 grams and is fit for his return to nature.

Zombie, darker in color, faced an even more harrowing journey. He was found with severe burns on all four paws and needed an extended recovery process. Though he lost a couple of toes during his rehabilitation, Zombie showed incredible resilience and is now fully recovered, ready to explore the wild once more.

The Wildlife Rescue Team reminds the public that their quick action can save lives. If you encounter any creatures that appear injured or in danger, call their emergency number at 99999505 - your vigilance could make all the difference!

Have you ever spotted a hedgehog in the wild?
