A must-see exhibition in Gozo: Victor Agius explores the Nativity at Il-Ħaġar Museum
'Between Earth, Light & Silence' opens this Sunday 23rd November, till 11th January 2026.
Il-Ħaġar Museum in Gozo is gearing up to open its next temporary exhibition, Between Earth, Light & Silence, a striking new body of work by renowned Gozitan artist Victor Agius.
Two decades after his 2005 exhibition Nativitas, Victor Agius revisits the Nativity, this time exploring it as a threshold between the physical and the spiritual, where silence meets light and matter is transformed into meaning. The result is a contemplative experience that invites visitors to pause, reflect, and immerse themselves in the Mystery of the Incarnation.
Victor’s sculptures and mixed-media paintings will be displayed alongside significant Nativity-themed pieces by some of Malta’s greatest artists, including Stefano Erardi, Anton Inglott, Emvin Cremona, Mario Caffaro Rore, Harry Alden, and Caesar Attard. These works have been specially loaned to Il-Ħaġar Museum by various public and private collections for the duration of the exhibition, making this a rare opportunity to view such pieces together under one roof.
The exhibition will be officially inaugurated on Sunday 23rd November 2025 at 11:45am, and the public is warmly invited to attend. It will remain open until 11th January 2026, during the museum’s regular hours: 09:00–17:00 daily, excluding Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. As always at Il-Ħaġar, admission is free.
Born in Gozo in 1982, Victor Agius has long been known for his deep connection to earth materials and themes of existence. Influenced early on by his father, sculptor Mario Agius, he went on to study at the University of Malta’s Fine Arts Department (2004), the International School of Painting, Drawing and Sculpture in Perugia (2009), and Central Saint Martins in London (2011). His work – spanning sculpture, installation, performance, and painting – has been exhibited widely in Malta and internationally, including in Florence, Rome and Oxford.
If you’re looking to experience the Nativity in a new way, Between Earth, Light & Silence should definitely make it to your festive season calendar!
