Malta welcomed a remarkable 355,561 inbound tourists in October 2024, marking a 13.2% rise compared to the same month in 2023. The majority of visitors, 329,388, arrived for leisure, while 19,118 traveled for business purposes.
Tourists aged 45-64 and 25-44 were nearly equal in numbers, making up 35.6% and 35.5% of arrivals, respectively. Visitors from the UK, Italy, and Germany accounted for 43.5% of the total, showcasing Malta’s popularity among European travellers.
Tourists collectively spent over 2.2 million nights in Malta during October, a 7.3% increase from the previous year. Of these, 87.1% opted for rented accommodations. The average duration of stay was 6.2 nights, reflecting the island’s appeal for extended visits.
Total tourist expenditure for the month surged to €356.5 million, up 18.4% year-on-year, with a daily average spend of €160.8 per person. Gozo and Comino proved particularly popular, attracting 203,950 visitors, representing 57.4% of all tourists.
For the year-to-date period from January to October 2024, Malta saw 3.1 million inbound tourists, a 19.4% increase from the same period in 2023. These visitors spent nearly 20 million nights, up 12.1%, while total tourist expenditure rose by 22.3% to €2.9 billion. Average per capita spending also climbed from €914 to €936.
Gozo and Comino drew 1.83 million tourists during the first ten months of 2024, representing 58.9% of total arrivals.
This surge highlights Malta’s growing appeal as a travel destination, bolstered by increased visitor numbers and significant economic contributions to the local economy.
