Another milestone has been marked by the Malta International Airport as September has been the third consecutive month recording more than 800,000 passenger movements.

In fact, it was revealed that the top five markets contributing to this surge in passenger movements remained consistent, underscoring the resilience of key source markets despite the evolving travel landscape.

Italy continued to reign supreme, claiming the top spot, followed by the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Spain. Collectively, these five markets represented a substantial 66% of the total traffic for September, reaffirming their importance to Malta's tourism industry.

Some notable trends emerged among these top markets. Italy experienced significant growth with a remarkable 48.7% increase over 2019 figures, reflecting the enduring allure of Malta's Mediterranean charm. France also demonstrated strong growth, recording a 46.4% increase in passenger movements.

However, it wasn't all smooth sailing for every market. The United Kingdom and Germany faced a more challenging recovery, with passenger movements decreasing by 19.1% and 23.8%, respectively, compared to 2019.

Spain, while experiencing a minimal dip of just 0.1%, showed stability despite the ongoing uncertainties in the travel sector.

This bustling month, which saw 812,176 passengers passing through its gates, highlights the resilience and strength of the travel industry in the heart of the Mediterranean. This achievement comes on the back of a 6.5% increase over 2019 figures, showcasing a clear rebound from the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the winter season approaches, Malta International Airport is already preparing for the next chapter. With a schedule that runs from November 2023 to March 2024, travellers can expect a variety of exciting options for their winter getaways.

The winter flight schedule includes direct connections to 30 different markets, offering travellers the chance to explore the rich history, culture, and natural beauty of Malta and its neighbouring destinations.
