91kg of plastic removed! Coast is Clear solo cleanup takes on Gozo’s Ramla and San Blas bays
Plastic pollution at sea knows no borders!

Francesca Vella

Armed with determination, Mark Galea Pace, the founder of Coast is Clear, set out on a solo mission to rid Gozo’s iconic red sand beaches of plastic pollution. With only his loyal four-legged companion, Gorg, by his side, Mark tackled the shores of Ramla Bay and San Blas, collecting an astonishing 91kg of waste!

Among the debris were bottles washed ashore from places as far as Tunisia, Libya, and Sicily and tangled fishing lines dangling in shallow waters, posing dangers to any marine life in the area. He also found alarming amounts of polystyrene - evidence of the persistent pollution creeping into Gozo’s coastal ecosystems.

This cleanup serves as yet another reminder of the importance of protecting our beaches and taking action against plastic waste. Hats off to Mark and Gorg for leading by example!

Have you ever participated in a coastal cleanup?
