Eight years ago today, Malta was hit by a massive storm that sent the island into a frenzy. The Weather Page Malta shared some shots of that day in 2012 and we’re shook!
“8 years ago Malta was hit by one of the worst storms in recent years with torrential rainfall starting on Sunday 2nd, strong winds, hail, microbursts and even a waterspout! Village feasts were cancelled, flooding hit many areas especially the central and southern parts, trees were uprooted, damages occurred to buildings, walls and roads while people and cars were dragged by the waters.”
“A 39-year-old man was also killed after being struck by lightning. One of the wettest localities was Qormi with over 160 mm of rainfall! This was caused by low pressure across the central Mediterranean with a very warm sea locally and high moisture making it ideal for such storms to form,” they shared. Yikes!
Do you remember the storm?
