60 years gone by! It's been 6 decades since the Redeemer statue was placed on the dome of this iconic church in Malta
The Miraculous Medal Chapel is located in Blata il-Bajda.

Sixty years ago, on the 6th of July 1963, the statue of the Redeemer was placed on the dome of the Miraculous Medal Chapel in Blata l-Bajda.

To commemorate this day, the National Archives of Malta took to social media to post a photo of this same statue in the process of it being placed on the chapel’s dome. Maltese Catholics, both old and young, have a deep devotion towards the statue of Christ the Redeemer.

The chapel itself has a beautiful history. Situated next to the Central House of the Society of Christian Doctrine, it is an absolute must-see for those visiting Malta for religious purposes. Built-in 1958, the chapel was designed by Maltese architect Richard England, and it is known for its simple yet modern architecture.

However, this stunning chapel is mostly known for occupying the remains of the blessed Saint George Preca, a Maltese priest and founder of the Society of Christian Doctrine. For this reason, the Miraculous Medal Chapel is a pilgrimage destination for many Catholics around the world.

This chapel was also visited by St. John Paul II in 2001 and Pope Francis during his visit to Malta in 2022.

Have you ever visited the Miraculous Medal Chapel?
