Yesterday, the Malta Football Association shared photos from a historic moment in local football, marking 40 years since Malta faced West Germany in a thrilling World Cup Qualifier at Ta' Qali on December 16th in 1984.

Although Malta lost 2-3, the game featured an unforgettable performance from local football legend Carmel Busuttil, known as 'Il-Buzu', whose stunning goal sparked an eruption of excitement from the crowd of over 30,000 - a record attendance at the stadium. Often regarded as one of the greatest footballers in Maltese history, those who witnessed that unforgettable goal claim it was the loudest cheer ever heard in the modern era of Maltese football!
