4 years on: These gorgeous shots of the Azure Window are giving us major nostalgia
It’s almost surreal to think that it’s already been three years since a storm washed away Malta’s beloved Azure Window in Gozo. One thing is sure: the legacy of the Azure Window will remain for many generations to come. Here’s to remembering this awesome sculpture of nature through some of the best pictures ever taken of it - the wonderful monument in Dwejra that now lives on as a popular dive site beneath the waves.
Bringing the Blue Hole into the picture makes it all look even more other worldly.
No matter which angle you look at it, the Azure Window looks truly majestic.
Even a black and white image is stunning when your subject has such amazing shape and form.
The foreground and the background simply add to the stunning effect.
Place a person in the picture and the grandeur of the Azure Window is even more highlighted.
A little high definitition accentuates the character of the rocks that made it.
Night-time images are no less impressive.
In the daytime, the limestone glows with the sun.
Warm yellows? Cool blues? The Azure Window looks wonderful in all hues.
A starry night simply accentuates a sense of wonder.
How about a rosy pink?
The great arch and the cliffs behind it inspired anyone to look deeper and glimpse what's beyond.
The topography of Dwejra was unique ... but it will never be the same again.
It's incredible to imagine that water could make and destroy something that displays such solidity and strength.
But the passage of time and the reality of impermanence comes to all things.
Water and earth ... so different in character yet intrinsically connected, now finally you rest together.
Azure Window! We thought we knew you and now you're gone! But you will certainly never be forgotten.
