It’s World Down Syndrome Day! Today is a day that raises awareness for people born with Down Syndrome, sharing that the only thing that’s different about them is that they have one extra chromosome. A new collaborative video by The People of Malta and Torri shows just that as the production team interviews Francesca Rausi’s family.

Francesca might seem familiar to you. The four-year-old became known last year after taking part in various modelling shows – even winning a few awards! The little model’s family shares the realities of raising someone with Down Syndrome.
“We see her and the people out there see her too,” her mother Michelle says. “Francesca is like all other children, she does all the things that other children do. You have no idea how lucky I feel that I have Francesca.”

“If you encounter someone with Down Syndrome, even if they are not your own child, they could change your life,” Michelle says. Francesca’s father also chimes in to share his experience. “The joy our daughter Francesca brings is incredible.”
“Francesca brings us and many other people joy, and had it not been this way, Francesca would not be here with us.” Michelle also says that they treat her like a normal four-year-old. “We wish that everyone else would treat her like four-year-old Francesca.

The production team noted that this video is there to “raise awareness to respect and include people with Down Syndrome and most importantly to NOT discriminate.”
