Malta has been named the ‘Most Desirable Island (Europe)’ at the 23rd Annual Wanderlust Reader Travel Awards, solidifying its reputation as a premier European travel destination. Renowned for its distinctive charm, rich culture, and unforgettable experiences, Malta triumphed over Ireland and Madeira, which secured second and third place, respectively.

The prestigious awards ceremony took place on the 6th of November at London’s iconic Tate Modern. Hosted by comedian and travel presenter Jack Whitehall, the event celebrated the best in global travel across 22 categories. This year’s awards saw an unprecedented 3.5 million votes cast by 168,000 readers of ‘Wanderlust’ magazine, reflecting the passion and enthusiasm of the travel community.

Tolene van der Merwe, Director for the UK and Ireland, highlighted Malta’s unique appeal, stating, ‘This recognition from Wanderlust underscores the island’s charm and the unforgettable experiences we strive to offer every visitor’.

Malta’s accolades didn’t stop there. In October, Malta also received the ‘Aspire Inclusive Initiative of the Year Award’ in recognition of its dedication to inclusivity in tourism. The award celebrated Malta’s efforts to enhance accessibility for all visitors, including hosting the successful EuroPride 2023 and improving facilities to cater to diverse needs.

These recognitions strengthen Malta’s ability to provide world-class experiences while maintaining a warm and inclusive environment for travellers.
