The battered facade of the British Army & Navy Bar on St Joseph High Street in Hamrun is featured in an old photograph on social media, igniting nostalgia in those who remember it.

Those commenting on the photo reminisce about the delicious taste of pastizzi that the bar used to serve, as well as the unique character of the owner, nicknamed ‘Gejtu tal-pastizzi’, who can be seen in the bar’s doorway in the photo.

The name of the bar suggests that it was built under British occupancy, and past occupants remember it to have welcomed a varied clientele, including groups of motorcycle enthusiasts who used to gather there on a regular basis in the 1960s.
