In a stunning display of strength and determination, Tenishia Thornton recently secured 7th place at the IWF Grand Prix in Qatar, a pivotal Olympic qualification event. The competition featured intense rivalries among weightlifters striving for a coveted spot at the Olympics, making this young athlete’s achievement all the more impressive.

Tenishia's performance in the snatch segment showcased her prowess, opening with a robust 83kg and following it up with a successful 86kg lift. Although narrowly missing her third attempt at 88kg, she exhibited resilience and carried that spirit into the Clean & Jerk phase.

Starting with a successful 101kg, Tenishia faced a setback with a failed 105kg attempt on her second try. However, she bounced back admirably, successfully lifting 105kg on her third and final attempt.

What adds an extra layer of significance to this star’s accomplishment is that she battled sickness just three days before the competition. Despite feeling unwell, her dedication to the sport propelled her to overcome the odds and deliver a remarkable performance.

Looking ahead, Tenishia has her sights set on the Olympic Games qualification journey. Her upcoming challenges include the European Championships in February and the final qualification event, the World Cup in Thailand, scheduled for April.

Well done, Tenishia!
