Hamrun's beloved San Gejtanu statue will be getting its spotlight in Rome as it is set to be exhibited for a month in Italy at Rome’s Mino Basilica of San Andrea Della Valle. The exhibition is in commemoration of the 500th anniversary of the foundation of the Theatines Order.
The statue is a representation of the patron saint of workers and the unemployed, and is highly revered by the people of Hamrun, Malta. This exhibition is a significant moment for the people of Hamrun, who are proud of their patron saint and their cultural heritage.

The work of Karlu Darmanin, the sculptor behind the San Gejtanu statue will not only be exhibited in Rome but will also be the centre of the procession. n. This is all happening between the 27th of August and the 30th of September 2024.
This exhibition is a testament to the enduring cultural and religious traditions of the people of Hamrun. However, it is also a golden opportunity for all Maltese people to showcase their unique heritage to the world and to share their love and devotion for Saint Gejtanu with others.

Frank Zammit, Malta’s Ambassador to the Holy See also took to social media to announce that, during Christmas time, in this same basilica, a total of 25 cribs will also be exhibited to commemorate St Paul’s journey on the Maltese Islands.
The San Gejtanu band society will also be performing a musical programme in San Andrea Delle Valle and in the Vatican.
