In a thrilling showcase of talent and determination, Michela Portelli, a young star in the making and club swimmer representing Sirens ASC, made waves at the Slovakia Swimming Cup in Samorin over the weekend.

Competing in the butterfly and freestyle events, Michela not only outperformed herself but also broke two national records, leaving her mark in the annals of Maltese swimming history.

On Friday, during the semifinal of the 50m butterfly event, Michela stunned the crowd by clocking an incredible time of 28.60 seconds. This not only secured her a place in the finals but also broke the existing national record held by Francesca Falzon Young by the slimmest of margins, just 0.01 seconds.

However, Michela's record-breaking exploits didn't end there; she went on to better her own record with a lightning-fast time of 28.47 seconds in the final, ultimately placing 6th overall in the highly competitive field.

Sunday was yet another triumphant day for Michela, as she set a new national record in the 100m butterfly. During the semifinal, she showcased her prowess by finishing with a remarkable time of 1.04.59 seconds, only to surpass herself in the final with a jaw-dropping time of 1.03.84 seconds. These exceptional feats secured her a 5th-place finish in the event.

As the 2023/2024 season begins, Michela Portelli's incredible achievements have set a promising tone for what lies ahead.
